Vintage 10th Mountain Division Downhill Snow Skis
c. 1946, 20th century
Wood, Metal
89”l x 3 1/8”w
© Vintage Winter

An example of 10th Mountain Division ski equipment.  These skis were made by Paris Mfg in South Paris, Maine for the US Army.  They were painted white to act as camouflage during missions on snow-covered terrain.  Many 10th Mountain Division soldiers were recruited by the U.S. National Ski Patrol after the war.  Skis like these were monumental in the success of missions against the Germans in the Italian mountains. This set is in excellent condition. The seriel numbers below the footplate indicate they were made March 1946 (#2768). The holes at the tips were designed to be able to "pull" them as a sled if necessary.
