This striking bodice circa 1890s (likely 1895/6) has enormous gigot or leg o' mutton sleeves with gold stud decoration.
Sleeves are in black silk, while the bodice is a robin's egg blue silk covered with a thin black and gold silk gauze.
Hook and eye closures down the center front and fully boned cotton lining.
Dress shields appear to have been added at a later date and the stand up collar may also be a slightly later (c. 1910s?) addition, though I am not certain. It has two long collar stays in the back to make it stand up.
Overall a very unique and lovely piece, wonderful for study or display. The sleeves are some of the most impressive I've seen!

Good condition overall for her age with some minor flaws to note. Likely best for study or display.
Generally strong and sturdy construction. Underarm discoloration. Small holes/separations in the gauze-like black and gold overlay. Missing two pieces of boning in the lining (removed from the channels).
There are two flaps of excess silk fabric at the front closures that are a bit odd. Perhaps they were simply folded over and covered with the gauze when worn, but I am not entirely certain.
