Vintage 1990s Zonda Nellis Orange Pink Patterned Burnout Velvet Jacket

A gorgeous patterned burnout velvet v-neck oversized jacket from Canadian designer Zonda Nellis, in the most beautiful hue! Lined at back and partially at front. It has dolman sleeves and 4 metal shank buttons at front, matching the cuffs. So whimsical! 

ERA: 80s or 90s

COLOUR: Variegated orange to bronze, pink to red, purple, blue and green. 

FABRIC: Silk velvet 

LABEL: Zonda Nellis. Made in Canada. 

Nellis is a Canadian designer based in Vancouver. She attended the Vancouver School of Art in the 1970s before starting her namesake label in the early 80s, making wearable art pieces. She was soon joined in business by her husband David. It became an international company and a Vancouver landmark for unique designs.

She used hand dyeing and gaufrage techniques in many of her designs, working with mills in Italy and France to create the fabrics for her work. Her designs were all produced in her studio in Vancouver.

Rich colours, intricate patterns and luxurious fabrics underscore her design sensibilities. The original retail price for her garments was in the thousands.

Actresses Halle Berry, Goldie Hawn and Diane Ladd are just a few of the many celebrities who have worn Zonda Nellis’s high-end fashions over the years.

She closed her business sometime in the 2010s.
